Woodlands Sleep Solutions — About Our Practice
At Woodlands Sleep Solutions, we believe better sleep starts with being taken seriously. Most of our patients arrive after years of being told they “just snore.” They are exhausted by mid-afternoon, foggy in meetings, waking with headaches, or sleeping in a separate room to keep the peace. Snoring and obstructive sleep apnea are not personality quirks. They are treatable medical conditions — and treating them changes how you feel every single day.
Oral appliance therapy in The Woodlands, TX
Woodlands Sleep Solutions, led by Dr. Tasnim Arsiwala, provides custom oral appliance therapy for adults with snoring and obstructive sleep apnea. An oral appliance is a small, custom-fitted device worn only during sleep. It holds the lower jaw in a slightly forward position so the airway stays open. No hose, no mask, no power outlet. It fits in a carry-on and travels anywhere you do.
For many people — especially those who have tried CPAP and given up on it — this is the treatment that finally sticks.
Who we help
- Adults with loud, chronic snoring
- Patients diagnosed with mild to moderate obstructive sleep apnea
- Patients who cannot tolerate CPAP or have stopped using it
- Patients who want a travel-friendly alternative or backup to CPAP
- Patients grinding or clenching at night alongside disrupted breathing
- Partners whose sleep is being disrupted too
We work with your physician, not around them
Obstructive sleep apnea is a medical diagnosis, and it belongs in a physician’s hands. Dr. A screens for the signs she sees every day in the dental chair — worn enamel, scalloped tongue, a narrow airway, a jaw that never quite relaxes — and coordinates with your physician or sleep specialist for testing, including convenient home sleep studies. Once you are diagnosed, she designs, fits, and fine-tunes your appliance, then follows up to confirm it is actually working. Your sleep physician stays in the loop throughout.
Care that fits your life
Treatment only works if you use it. That is the whole philosophy here. Dr. A takes the time to explain what your results mean, what your options are, and what to realistically expect — then adjusts the appliance over the following weeks until it is comfortable enough that you forget it is there. Many patients and their partners notice a difference within the first few nights.
If you snore, wake up tired no matter how long you slept, or have been handed a CPAP you cannot stand, there is another path worth knowing about.
Common questions
What is oral appliance therapy?
A custom-made device worn during sleep that gently advances the lower jaw to keep your airway open, reducing or eliminating snoring and apnea events. It is recognized by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine as a treatment for snoring and obstructive sleep apnea.
Is it an alternative to CPAP?
Yes. Oral appliances are a recognized option for patients with mild to moderate obstructive sleep apnea and for those with severe OSA who cannot tolerate CPAP.
Do I need a sleep study first?
Yes. Sleep apnea must be diagnosed by a physician. We can screen you and coordinate a referral for a home sleep test, then treat once you have a diagnosis.
Is it covered by insurance? Oral appliance therapy is often covered under medical insurance rather than dental. We help you verify your benefits before you commit.
Does it hurt or feel bulky?
There is a short adjustment period — mild jaw soreness or extra saliva in the first week is normal. Because the device is custom-made and adjusted over follow-up visits, most patients sleep through the night comfortably within a couple of weeks.
