Holiday Road: Easy Travel Tips from Your Woodlands Dentists for a Healthy Smile

added on: December 12, 2022

We’ve made it to December and the holidays are upon us. The Woodlands Dental Group wanted to thank all our patients for your loyalty in 2022! Because of you, everything we do is so special, and we look forward to a near year of successful smiles.

Before you and your family travel TX this holiday season, your dentist in The Woodlands wanted to remind you not to forget about your oral health care routine. When we go far from home, sometimes it’s easy to lose track — it happens! With some advanced planning and a little help from us, you won’t have to worry about taking a vacation from caring for your smile.

Here are some easy things you can do:

  • Packing – First things first — Don’t forget to include your toothbrush, toothpaste, floss, mouthwash, and whatever else you use to keep your teeth clean. If you or someone in your family relies on a mouthguard, sleep guard, or retainer, make sure they make the trip too.
  • Flying – Consider keeping your oral health tools handy if traveling by air this year— easy access while in-flight means you won’t miss out on an opportunity to maintain your oral health. If you’re going on a long plane ride, remember to drink lots of water, avoid sticky snacks, and chew sugar-free gum to help with altitude changes or pressure.
  • Arriving – Make sure you pack your toothbrush in a container that has ventilation. When you safely reach your destination, take it out and give it a chance to dry. Your Woodlands dentist can tell you that bacteria love hanging out on wet surfaces like toothbrush bristles. If tap water is an issue where you’re staying this holiday season, remember brushing your teeth might not be safe. Use bottled water and be sure.

Make sure you schedule a visit to one of our dental offices in The Woodlands for a gentle checkup and cleaning before your holiday journey begins. We’ll be able to spot any potential problems before you leave that could make you wish you’d just stayed home!
